Shortcutz Berlin – Session #23 (October 6)

And, for our big come-back after three months of absence, this week’s Competition Shorts are:

Short #1: “Torten im Sand” (Cakes and Sand) by Christoph Scheermann
2010, 15:42 min
Synopsis: Tim and Julian are deeply in love but the gay couple can’t have sex with each other. When you can’t sexually satisfy the person you love is this enough reason to quit a long relationship? Can love save what sex destroys?

Short #2: “Not at Home” by Milena Leszkowicz
2011, 2:39 min
Synopsis: The thoughts and snapshots of a journey, somewhere in the US, always searching and moving between desire and lived reality. “Not at Home” is a filmic letter to those who stayed behind, trying to illustrate travelling and seeing as a state of mind. On the road, away from home, chasing expectations.

This Week’s Guest Short: “Spatzen” by Jan Speckenbach
Germany, 2009, 12:00 min
Synopsis: A man and a woman meet in a bar. They walk through the night without any reason. At dawn they separate again. A long take.

Our Special Guest for this week is Juli SchymikJuli Schymik works at the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin as a coordinator between Festivals and the students. During her intervention, she will speak about her work, her attributions as well as present the DFFB – which has incidentally an Open House on the 8th.

Don’t forget: We are now at Reichenberger Straße 133 in Kreuzberg, session starts at 8:30 pm and screenings at 9 pm. Entrance is and will remain free, don’t hesitate to show up. We don’t bite, we smile.
