Jury

New Jury Member: Robin Curtis!

We are very happy to share with you that starting in January  Robin Curtis has joined the Shortcutz Berlin Jury!

New Jury Member: Alec Crichton!

New Jury Member: Jan Harlan!

We are very proud to announce that Jan Harlan, producer, friend and brother-in-law of the (sadly) deceased Stanley Kubrick is now a new Jury member of Shortcutz Berlin and Shortcutz London.

Born in Karlsruhe in 1937, Jan Harlan started to work with Stanley Kubrick  in 1969 for his Napoleon project, Kubrick’s never-filmed epic about the French military leader. He then became an assistant producer for “A Clockwork Orange” and for years later, in 1975, he became Kubrick’s Executive Producer and worked for Warner Bros. on “Barry Lyndon“, “The Shining“, “Full Metal Jacket” and “Eyes Wide Shut“. Searching for projects, evaluating, preparing and abandoning stories were part of his exciting professional life with Stanley Kubrick.

After Stanley Kubrick’s death in 1999, Jan Harlan worked with Steven Spielberg on “A.I. Artificial Intelligence“. Later, Jan Harlan directed the documentary “Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures“ and a documentary about the British actor Malcolm McDowell ”O Lucky Malcolm” (both for Warner Bros). He has also made some films with students and a film with the Young European Philharmonic Orchestra in Stade, Germany, around Antonín Leopold Dvořák‘s Cello Concerto with Alexander Baillie, “Dvorak Who?“. In addition to lecturing at film schools and serving in juries at international competitions, Jan Harlan is now preparing a documentary film on Kubrick’s Napoleon project with Erik Nelson and Alison Castle, ”quite a nostalgic closing of a circle”, as Harlan describes it.

So yes, indeed, we are very happy and proud to have Jan Harlan as one of our Jury members!
